Question about RAC, virtual machines, nfs and zero padded files.

I have run into a problem with 10g and 11g RAC installations on both Linux and Solaris that has me puzzled. I have built a series of test and development clusters using a nfs filer with virtual machines. I am using both solaris and linux depending on the customers need. I came into this project after the systems were built and I was asked to build the clusters on top of what I was given. The first issue was the number of shares. There were multiple shares on all of the systems, fra, oradata, cluster, etc. I created the zero-padded
