ssl required for weblogic admin server / obiee analytics

do I have to implement ssl for the admin server if i'm implementing ssl for the obiee components, like analytics.

the weblogic console/em are only accessed locally, while we intend to use ssl/sso via our portal to allow users to

access  analytics and run the dashboards..

I saw this reference in the security guide (e10543),

You must configure the Oracle WebLogic Server to use HTTPS (for Administration

Server and Managed Servers) before you enable SSL communication between Oracle

BI EE components.

But was told this wasn't necessarily true for webogic 10.3.6/obiee 11.1.1.7.1  ??
