Receipt reminder emails

Hello,
In oracle R12, there is a way we can turn on Receipt reminder emails to all iprocurement users.
We already have 1000s of un receipted purchase orders in our system.

if we turn on this functionality now, does Oracle bombard our users with lots of receipt reminder notifications for the past Orders ?
Is there a way we can only turn on this feature for the new orders only ?
