R12.2 Install Base Open Interface and Install Base APIs

In 11.5.10 I used the Install Base Open Interface to create item instances and create relationships between instances for both Internal and External customers.  Now that we are upgrading to R12.2 I have found that the Open Interface will not work with Internal customer instances now.  So I am converting to using the APIs to create instances (for Internal continue to use the Inventory Open Interface as well) and to create relationships.  Will the API work for Internal instances now for creating relationships?  I remember before this was a reason I used IB Open Interface instead of the APIs.  It
