What is the purpose of the LSE_ID field?

We have been using Oracle APIs to create new warranties for products.  The warranty is for a unit being exchanged so the replacement picks up the residual warranty of the unit it is replacing..

After craeting these new warranties we find that while the original warranty for the unit to be returned had a numeric value in the LSE_ID field the warranties we have created do not.

Presumably the field has to be populated but what value does it represent and how do we detrermine the value to enter
