 Dear experts,
  I have a database in new server where I want to get a mail for any errors in alert log file.  I have smtp details with me.  Please guide me how to go ahead and get mail

1. What is the prerequisites to get mail
2. What all parameters have to be changed or altered
3. What is the syntax for this

Overall, I need complete details about configure smtp in my new server.
