What is the purpose of the TEMP01.DBF file and how to prevent it from growing up to 35GB?

Dear community,
I have a very large TEMP01.DBF file of 35 GB which should be 512 MB only I think.

What is the purpose of the TEMP01.DBF file and how to prevent it from growing up to 35GB?
