Equipment downtime traking

 Hello,

I would like to know, which is the best way to track equipment downtime in process execution. My client has 10-15 factors due to which the machinery(equipment) is shutdown and they want report showing the downtime reasons and time.

two options that we have thought of are

1) Create separate operations/activities which points to each downtime reason and perform the operation each time the machine is down.

2) Create a dummy activity and resource, and perform the resource transaction each time the machine is down and provide a REASON for the same.

Any one have any other idea or is there any other seeded way to do so....!!
