Manual vs. System Generated JE's

Auditor is asking: 
"how are journal entries in Oracle designated between standard vs. non-standard (i.e., manual vs. system generated)? Is there a standard Oracle system setting that is automatically populated based on how the entry is uploaded? Also, how does management get comfort that someone is not able to go into the Oracle configurations and change this designation (i.e., make a manual entry look like a system-generated entry)?" 

This is regarding 11i.
