Backup Validate Datafile command

Hi

We have a 10.2.0.4 database with some bad / corrupt blocks in some of the data files

we do not use RMAN for backups and use conventional hot backups

Can we run the "backup validate datafile #" command against a file that has never been backed up using RMAN?

Instead of running dbverify against each data file we were thinking if we could run this validate command against each data file to check for logical / physical corruption
