Multi-Facility Planning for Configured Items

Is multi-facility planning compatible with configured items?

Here is our specific scenario.  We have a manufacturing branch A that makes and ships configured items.  A second branch, B, ships replacement parts, including configured subassemblies, for branch A items.  Branch B is essentially just a distribution branch that does not have equipment to manufacture or assemble items, just package and ship them.

We use multi-facility planning for discrete items.  An order for a discrete item from branch B generates an MRP message to create an 'OT' purchase order in branch B with a related 'ST' transfer order in branch A.  Currently for configured items, we follow a different process.  We will have a configured assembly, ASSY1, that is manufactured in branch A.  We then have a dummy sales level S-ASSY1 that is sold through branch B.  An order for S-ASSY1 in branch B creates a child work order for ASSY1 in branch A.

Howdy, Stranger!
