Opening a new applet on click of New record button

Hi we have a requirement to open a applet on click of new record button from base applet. user will then select the records from the new applet and click ok which will create multiple records in base applet.We dont want users to modify the data in new applet hence he can only select records from it. as soon as he selects records and clicks ok the same number of records should get added to the base applet.

Is such a configuration possible?  Can any one suggest configuration options and how many BC tables it will involve?
