Manage manufacturing in steel processing company - discrete WIP vs OPM

I'm implementing Oracle EBS R12.1.3 in a company that sell parts (like rings and disks) cutted from a plate. In such production environment you obtain different finish goods from the same piece of raw material component.

For example you have a 2 tons plate (1 piece) and from this peace you obtain (by laser cutting) 10 pcs rings and pcs 20 disks. For all items dual unit of measure tracking (pieces and kilograms) is required.

I think that discrete manufacturing is not the most suitable tool to manage this kind of production.

Maybe OPM is better?
