Change history for inventory item description

Received a question from a business user and throwing it out to the community for thoughts/opinions.

We are on 12.1.3, and Oracle Inventory is basically just used as a repository for item information, like quantity on hand and average cost.  We receive items into inventory, perform miscellaneous transactions, do an occasional internal sales order.  We don't use WIP, process manufacturing, or WMS.  For the few items that are resold, this is not processed out of Oracle but out of a side system.

We have received requests from Inventory departments to change an item description where the item has already been used on past POs.
