Database Refreshes

Received this from a customer:

When refreshing the database, a prompt comes up with the following message: Warning: Refresh will recreate the outline for all the Essbase cubes used in this Application based on the current metadata definition in Planning for this application. Please back up your Outline file and export data from all databases before proceeding. Click 'Refresh' to proceed.

Does this mean that the refresh can fail? What happens if it does and I didn’t back all my information? Should I back all info before making any changes to the database? I guess my concern is if I should be worried about losing data, since we will be forecasting all projects for Network (the biggest part of the company) through Hyperion Planning.
