ASM Terminology in comparison to LVM

I am trying to get my head around the terminology of ASM in comparison to that of Logical Volume Management.

my understanding of termininology used -

In volume management, a physical volume can be - a complete physical disk, a partition of a disk or a LUN from a RAID/SAN

A Logical Volume is basically a collection/concatenation of physical volumes

An ASM Disk can be a physical volume or a logical volume ( though OS / 3rd party logical volumes are not recommended )

An ASM Disk Group is a collection of ASM Disks

Q1. How does an ASM Group differ in princple from a Logical Volume ? A logical volume is a collection of physical volumes, the logical volume can be mirrored or stripped.

Howdy, Stranger!
