Is is possible to change the owner of a sub opportunity

Hi All ,

I have got an issue where user after creating an opportunity, is creating a sub opportunity and is trying to change the owner, however is getting an error. I have tried it myself too, however I m unable to change it and get the same error " Unable to append value ". Please can you advice.
