Contributor UI - exact phrase search?

How can an author do exact phrase searching in the Contributor UI?

Other standard lucene operators (like ~) seem to work so I assumed it would just be quoted as it normally is with lucene but that doesn't appear to work correctly. If I search for "couple surfing" in the global search box of the avisports demo site I get a load of results which seem to be matching couple or surfing and don't contain the exact phrase (just from eyeballing the results list). Likewise, if you switch to advanced search you can say 'all of these words' or 'any of these words' but there doesn't seem to be a 'this exact
