Different character other than . as separator character in Location Format Definition

Have anybody tried to use a different character other than . as separators in location field. Client likes to use - (hyphen). I changed the character in BP Constants Location Definition Setup but the location IDs look continuous without any separators. For example, I want the location to look like B2139BAT-CH3391, but the location just stays as B2139BATCH3391.
