Changing the Item Number (LITM) in P4101

If we go into the P4101 and change the Item Number (LITM) field, will I run into any issues in inventory, sales, work order or AR? or will all of my history convert because the short item number (ITM) is the unique key?

Has anyone tried to do this and seen issues?
