Is it possible to have a cost for an item in a nonasset subinventory?

Is it possible to have a cost for an item in a nonasset subinventory? User has inventory items purchased through grant money which they would like to carry a cost on, so when the inventory item is issued from the storeroom to a work order this value is transferred to the work order. However, they don't want this cost to rollup and be included in their total inventory dollars. How could this be set up to accomplish this?
