12.2 proxy installation and upgrade fail

Having taken action to ensure the correct jdk all around I still can't get an existing Solaris 10 proxy controller to upgrade. My Solaris 11 proxy controller never came back online after upgrading the EC; I uninstalled that PC and tried to have EC deploy it as new but that doesn't work. Attempting to follow the installation manual for a command-line installation doesn't work because the documentation doesn't match the software -- neither for 12.2 nor for 12.1.4.  I totally get it that a S11 SRU and new jdk dropped without Ops Center having a chance to test, but for
