CM Server on Database Server in R12

Hi,

We are splitting our APPS and DB tiers on separate servers, I need to ask 1 thing, do we need to run CM server on database server in order to get performance improvements in CM server processing? Is their any logic behind that? or we can keep the whole apps tier as it is on same machine and split on Database tier on other machine? Is there any best practice recommended by Oracle Support to keep CM server and DB server on same machine.
