Size of excel output sent by bursting program is huge

Hi,

We have developed a report where in we are sending the output of report in excel format(.xls) to user email, through XML bursting. We see the file size of excel output attached to the email is huge even though number of records are very less. When we open the attachment sent through email and try saving it, default output type shows as web(.html). When we change the output type to Excel and save it. File size reduces from 5MB to 300KB.

Please let us know if there is any solution where in we can reduce the file size being sent through xml bursting program.
