Explanation of OLAP_MAX_CONNECTIONS

Various Hyperion Planning tuning resources suggest, for example, increasing OLAP_MAX_CONNECTIONS to 20 if you have 100 users; but I need an explanation of what this property actually effects, and how I can measure the effect of changing it.

Our application currently has it setting to 10.
