Why does System create an instance for the ATO Model

We are a manufacturing company and extensively use ATO Models and configurators.

The * number generated copies all the attriibutes from the ATO Model and therefore we have to set the ATO Model as IB trackked but this causes the  ATO Model itself to create a IB instance.

Is there a way we can prevent CSI from creating an instance for ATO Model but continue to create an instance for the *number?

This causes lots of confusion and double up the number of instances in the IB.
