ITEM LOAD Error correction

We have begun using Item Load for Inventory/Purchasing.  When we look at our Errors in Maintain Data Defn page, we have a message that appears....  "Transactions exist in stage for this item that were received prior to this one".  When we run the reprocess errors, this line item does not go away?  Do we need to set this status in the Maintain Data Definitions to 'Cancelled' and then purge the cancelled items?  Does that affect the data in the Item Definition record?  Also, we have found that we have a  'Complete' status for some of our line items in this
