error during database upgrade from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.3

Hello,

I didn't run the prechecks for the upgrade mentioned in subject line.After I tried to open this database in 11gr2 with startup upgrade option it went up fine however during the run of catupgrade.sql it gave an error that prechecks for this have not been run and advised to open the database in previous oracle home and run the script.

SELECT TO_NUMBER('MUST_HAVE_RUN_PREUPGRADE_TOOL_FOR_TIMEZONE')

Error at Line 1

ORA-01722 Invalid number

When I tried to open the database in previous oracle home it gave an error of control file version 11.2.0 mismatch with oracle home 10204.
