For AP where does the Company address come from

We are confused as to where this information comes from when we set up a new company using the same bank account that we use for our other Energy companies.  On company Names and Numbers - company setup there is a company address number field.  Most of the time I see this blank but sometimes I see it populated with an address book number.  How does the system know what address book number to use when using the print payment programs.
