System Firmware upgrade Best Practices

in SPARC T-series servers (MOSC)

Here are few guidelines you might want to read if you intend to upgrade the Firmware of your SPARC T-series servers.


Before the Upgrade.

You can find system firmware for your platform at :

- The Sun System Firmware Release Hub
- The Sun System Handbook

Please have a good look to the special instructions in the patch README notes as it may contain important changes in the standard procedure.

Although it is not specifically mentioned in the README notes, it is strongly recommended to perform a soft reset of ILOM before starting the upgrade (CLI -> reset /SP or GUI ). This "blank" reset will make a good clean up in ILOM memory and make sure you get sufficient space to copy the Firmware package file on Service Processor Disk-On-Chip.
