Non Serialized Return

I am using a transaction sub type - with change owner not selected for return in OM. The customer instance got expired and a new item instance got created with the sub inventory location with ownership changed to internal. Is it the expected functionality ?

I want to do a RMA receipt for repair and send it back. Can we do this for non serialized item ?
