zpool attach rpool fails with system is not capable of booting from an EFI(GPT) labeled device

For reference:     SPARC T3-1,  ILOM v3.2.1.5.k,  Firmware 8.3.1.b,  Solaris 11.

I am trying to install a new SAS2 hard drive to mirror the existing drive.
