Instance Activity -- Logons current = cumulative (forever)

Oracle 11.2.0.3, RHEL 6.3, 64-bit OS

When I look under Instance Activity in OEM, I'm seeing that the CURRENT logons is the same as CUMULATIVE logons (as if the logons are staying logged on, and not releasing.  What would cause that to occur?

The system "locked up" last week, and just prior to that there were 2.5 million "current/cumulative" logons.  Creepy, and possibly a problem.  After a server restart, the current/cumulatve dropped to zero, and now -- a couple of days later -- we're up to 700 and counting.
