Linux 5.5 Performance problem

Hi,

I am using the Enterprise Linux Server 5 update 5.

The problem is that sometimes when I switch on the server it responds very slow and even if I shut down it won't shutdown and says "System is shutting down, please wait ...". But it won't shutdown.

What might be the cause for this?

Can someone please provide me a resolution for this ?
