using IF with BI Pub Checkbox

on JDE 8.12 tools 8.98 upgrade 4.12

I'm looking for an example of how to use the IF statement with BI Publisher RTF forms.  Specifically, need to use the IF to control whether a Checkbox is checked; the XML field will have a value of "AV" when the Checkbox needs to be checked.
