R3483 Not Creating Planning Message for Component Items

For component items DRP/MRP is not creating planning messages. We run R3483 with planning codes <>0 to cover MRP and DRP generation and this works just fine for all non-component items. I have confirmed that the items (both the Make items and the component items) are not setup in the Item Branch as Obsolete. Also, I have confirmed that the lower level codes for the component item as well as the make items are set correctly. We are at a loss as to why this is not creating the needed planning messages.
