sales line create date changes after splitting the line

My users state this never use to happen before R12.  We use the creation date of the line as the booked date.  it's being updated when we split the line.  this then makes the line look like it's a new booking.

Has anyone seen this?  is it new, or has it always been that way.  is there a workaround to stop this?
