Special Characters in Verity Search for PeopleMatch, PeopleSearch, Opportunity Seach

I am trying to use Verity Search for Special Characters. Whenever I use Special Characters on the Verity Search I am getting no results. If i replace the special character with a Space in the search criteria I am able to get results.

Is there some config that needs to be done in order to search for special characters
