Tuning rman backups
Oracle 11.2.0.2 Std Ed One, 64-bit
No ASM, no RAC.
Oracle Linux 5.6
I have database which for various reasons I’m just now implementing rman backups. Current backup is a nightly shutdown and cold backup. My first level 0 backup was Sunday morning at 0230. It didn’t complete until 1741, for a total run time of over 15 hours. And the total of all backupsets (data files, archivelogs, control files) was only 30gb. (The entire database size as reported by EM is 222gb).
It would seem obvious that some tuning is in order.
Since I’m running Std Edition, I don’t have parallelism, so can’t open multiple channels.
