How to resolve a "The external bank account already exists error"

We need to setup a contractor for direct deposit that used to be an employee.  They had an employee type supplier created in the past with their bank account and now when we try to create a new supplier with the same bank account we are receiving the "The external bank account already exists" error.  What can we do to add this bank account to the new supplier?  Thanks.
