Alternate BOM in ASCP

We are on decentralised R12.1.2 (ASCP) and 11.5.10.2 (OLTP). Had a question on Alternate BOM

Our business uses unconstrained plans(I know that they will be considered in Constrained plans using decision rules) and want to know if ASCP will consider Alternate BOM if they exist for certain assemblies. If not, is it that the planner when releasing the planned orders will have to implement them as Alternate BOM?
