.local vs .com

I have built a PIA that will be used with SSL certificates.  I have an https address and a http address.

I have a webprofile the uses the .com address and i also have a webprofile that does not use the .com address.

When i use the webprofile (KIOSK) -

the url for the PIA using servername.xxxxx.local: gives me a screen stating that i need xxxxx.com in my url

if i try to use http (or https)://servername.xxxxx.com:port ---- the browser acts like the PIA is down

if i use the webprofile (DEV) for instance,  I am able to logon with either https or http.servername.xxxxx.local ---
