What to do with a 'bad' Oracle hit ratio?

edited May 14, 2014 12:00PM in Database Tuning (MOSC) 9 commentsAnswered

I am aware of the differing opinions concerning the use of monitoring Oracle hit ratios.

We recently started tracking our hit ratios.

And now I have been tasked with writing a follow-up document on:

  • how to interpret the hit ratios,
  • the necessary steps to correct a ‘bad’ hit ratio. (Bad being anything < 90%)

This is where things get complicated, I am a new dba, I only have a few months of work under my belt. I can’t really find useful information on the internet and I am fast running out of ideas. I need to finish my document for my superiors and I am coming up empty handed.
