Can lost data be recovered by simply restoring the databases on the sequal server from last night's

For the first time since implementation, we have lost some data that is not available to reload or copy. Fortunately it's just nine months of a forecast scenario, but still important to recover. Since the application is otherwise fine, I was hoping to just restore the data as it was yesterday by requesting our IT Department / Database administrators to restore the sequal server backup? Pardon the basic question, but we do not have infrastructure expertise in house. My basic understanding says it should be that simple, but my HFM experience fears it may be more complicated? Any advice would
