What is the difference between Siebel 8.1.1.11 and 8.2.2.4. To what version should I upgrade?

We are currently running Siebel 8.0.0.9 SIA. We would like to upgrade to a currently supported version. It looks like you can go to either release 8.1.x or 8.2.x. What is the difference between the two? Would there be any reason not to go to the 8.2.x version? Wouldn't that be the newest version?

We had received an email in 2012 about the end of Premier Support for 8.0.x and it refers to upgrading to 8.1.x. Even at that time the 8.2.x version was out. Why would you not go to 8.2.x?
