Allow dynamic insert for Item Key flexfield

Hi,

I am not able to enable allow dynamic insert check box for item key flexfield. Is it possible to enable for item key flex field

When I am making changes at ITEM MASTER level for item key flexfiled, it' s not allowing because code combination does not exist & again we need to make that combination manually. If I enable allow dynamic insert problem might be resolve else please suggest alternative solution.
