Removing the Revenue and Expected Revenue field from the Opportunity

We have a lot of issues with reps not clicking the "Update Opportunity Totals" button on the product revenue line item on the Opportunity, which is causing the Revenue field to not be updated. We don't run any reports strictly off of the Opportunity. We only run reports on Opportunity Product Revenues.

My question is this, my manager would like the Revenue and the Expected Revenue fields to just be removed entirely from the Opportunity detail since they are read-only fields and we don't really base much on them anyway. I am nervous to do this though. I can't see why it would cause an issue but wanted to throw it out there to the community to see if anyone else has done this. Has it caused any problems? When we want totals, we can simply take it from the product revenue field but I still am not totally comfortable with taking
