R12.1.3 - Best Practices on defining and minimizing Asset Major and Minor Categories

We are on 11i. We are reimplementing R12.1.3. Our 11i instance has multiple asset categories defined in different countries. We want to minimize the asset categories in R12 and are looking for best practices around that. Please share any best practices or documents around this.
