Modify the standard or create a copy

Hi,

I would like some input from some of the developers and Oracle.

What is the best practice concerning modifications to standard objects, should you modify the standard application/report or should you create a copy and modify the copied object?

These are mostly just cosmetic changes, not serious changes to the logic of the application/reports.

Can you point me to a document where this is specified.
