How to Handle Very Large Report Files

Hi,

We are testing the 11i to R12 upgrade and are finding that many BI reports produce large output files in formats like PDF, RTF, etc. These files have ranged up to several hundred MB and a couple have excedded 1GB. Even on our local LAN, opening these monster files is very slow and for locations on our WAN it takes many hours and floods the communication pipe. .

We would like to know how large companies handle these large formatted print files. We are a medium size company compared to many Oracle customers so it would seem that larger companies would have a similar problem. Any advice that you can give on ways to reduce the files sizes (other than run for less data which is all Oracle Support has to offer) or alternate ways to get the files to the user's PC will be greatly appreciated.
